Time To Be Schooled On Murals!

Yet another beautiful mural found in the Florida Keys, its location though may surprise you! Most all of the murals throughout the entire Keys are painted on businesses of all kinds including a K-Mart, scuba dive shops, veterinary clinic, restaurants, boat storage facility, tourist information centers, and many other privately run businesses. This however is none of the above, this my friends is found on a government funded high school! Yes mi amigos, Marathon High School proudly displays this beautifully painted mural upon their front wall for all to see. So kudos for being different Marathon...

A Round Tree Branch… Freak OF Nature?

Is this oddity a freak of nature, genetic hybrid or the beginnings of a Disney World topiary characters sculpted from a bush? Have you ever in your life seen a ROUND tree branch? This small tree sits nearly alone only feet away from a pond and is impossible to miss. Upon seeing this from a distance I was nothing less than astounded as I hurried toward my prized photo. Being inside a Botanical Garden I already expected the unexpected but never this! As I got closer I could see that the branch was almost perfectly round wondering how could that be? Standing only feet away you could...

Oops, Forgot Wife!

Got wife? If so, you better make sure she’s with you in the family camper or car before leaving a fun-filled weekend of camping! Look closely at the yellow ‘Check List’ sign: Antenna Down, Steps Up, Sewer Cap On, Wife In Car! I love humorous signs and this one falls right in there along with another yellow road sign spotted in the Keys that read “Children, They Taste Like Chicken”. You can find this oddity photo-op just off of US-1 South at Mile Marker 20.0 oceanside. Turn onto road 939B and head into the KOA Kampground finding the sign...

Police Badge Found By Fountain

Finding neat, exciting and different oddities by accident is a very rewarding part of my job. Many times I’ll see a sign, marker, statue or plaque (as in this one), take a photo without ever reading it till getting home knowing that if it’s not blog-worthy material it can simply be deleted. This on the other hand surprised me upon enlarging the commemorative plaque. I found a Key West Police Officer’s badge none like any other I’d run across mounted above a plaque in front of a fountain. This stand-alone badge made me take note, think and contemplate its...

Garden -or- Cemetery?

Though from a distance it looks like a pet cemetery, I assure you it’s NOT! Upon closer inspection it turns out to be the only one of its kind I’ve seen in the Florida Keys! It’s actually a local seafood restaurant’s own herb garden. Now how’s that for FRESH! “I’ll have the blackened Mahi-Mahi garnished with some of those weeds I saw in your garden outside!” OK, they wouldn’t appreciate that too much! So, I ask you my loyal readers, “Does your local seafood restaurant have its own herb garden?”… I bet...

Going Down The Lazy River

Whether it’s kayaking or canoeing you’re into really doesn’t matter because this place has them both! Seen in the featured photo is another photo, not quite sure where it is… but I know it’s not of the Florida Keys since we don’t have any mountains! In the picture below, the colored canoes & kayaks make a great rainbow-type photo with someone from your group kneeling beside or behind them. I didn’t get the exact price to rent either but assure you all they’re not free. You can find these kayaks & canoes and...

Church Humor: Thou Shalt Not Park Here

AWESOME SIGN! Sometimes humor can be found in the most unlikely places. This church parking lot sign is nothing less than Heaven sent for a ‘365 Days’ blog. ‘Thou Shalt Not Park Here’ is yet another perfect example of why we drive in and around church parking lots. Church is one of the last places that you’d expect to find humor and yet one of the most appreciated. This humorous sign can be found at Mile Marker 90 oceanside of US-1 exactly next to the Coral Shores High School in Tavernier at the Coral Isles United Church Of Christ.  ...

Beach Picnic With A View To Die For!

Though every beach has an ocean view, the type of view is up to you in where you chose to get comfy at. Few times are you able to enjoy such splendor, serenity, peacefulness and seclusion as we did on this given day! Here at the busiest beach in Key West we were alone in our view of the Atlantic Ocean. After our customary bike ride around town, we chose here for a picnic (notice our bike basket doubling as a picnic basket)… and what a GREAT choice it proved to be. Though we weren’t the only ones on the beach, we were the only ones in the view of our picnic table towards the ocean. Life...

Voted BEST EVER Southernmost Sign In The Florida Keys!

Hands down the BEST ‘Southernmost Sign’ EVER in the entire Florida Keys! OK, I must admit that I was the ONLY judge voting for the ‘Southernmost Sign’ crown and here it is! This colorful very large KOA Campground sign is indeed the best of the best ones out there… and I’ve seen dozens. I’ve reported in the past that there’s a southernmost everything out there: Southernmost Home, Southernmost Motel, Southernmost Furniture, Southernmost Tattoo, and even a Southernmost Cigar Company all vying for the prestigious title in their respective...

Key’s Bahia Honda Bridge Mural

Say ‘Hello’ to one the Florida Key’s coolest murals! Seen here is a beautiful great addition to the growing tradition of painted murals throughout the entire Keys. This is indeed a bright spot along your journey and caught my attention instantly upon passing this eye-popping two-walled painted masterpiece. Its focal point is the former majestic now crumbling Bahia Honda bridge along with an iguana, sunset, bicycle rider, mangrove root tree & palm tree. You can find the one of the Key’s brightest colorful murals at Mile Marker 48.0 bayside beside the...
