Florida Key’s New Emergency Warning Sirens

Is this the Florida Keys newest tourist attraction? Maybe not, but it is one of the Florida Keys newest additions! But what is it? From out of nowhere I could see it rising above the surrounding trees, it can’t be a power pole it’s too tall. Getting out of my car and walking towards the sky-scrapping pole my neck and eyes peered upward to what appeared to be a super-sized speaker. (seen below in a super close-up photo) Using myself as a gauge (seen above), I can tell that this stands nearly 52′ tall into the Florida sky. At its base a sign reads: ‘WHEN...

Sharing A Beach With Sea Turtles

Ever shared a silver-sand beach with sea turtles? Well here you can… from of distance that is! Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles nest in these sands during the day instead of at night as all other sea turtles do. Look at one of the photos below, you can see that the red-colored walkway has lightened sections that from afar look non-disscript. Now look at the up close picture as a miniature turtle comes into focus. Who knows, depending on the time of year you visit, you might actually be on the beach at the same time as turtles! You can find these tiny embedded images of sea turtles just...

Conch Shell Cutie!

How cool is this! We had stopped by to get my long-awaited photo with the ‘Pink Ape’ made famous by Adam Richmond on one of the episodes of the Travel Channel’s Man-V-Food Nation. We were then approached by a gentlemen coming out of the store in the background who said “You ought to get a picture of her laying down in the conch shell!” And so we did! Boys, this is my ‘Conch Shell Cutie’, I suggest you head on down the Keys and photograph one of your own! You can find this goliath sized conch shell sitting exactly beside the pink ape at Mile...

Lighthouse With A View

Some things in life need no explanations at ALL. Let me tell you; “Standing at the top of an inland lighthouse looking over the entire city of Key West is one of them!” You just simply ENJOY it! You can find Key West’s historic inland lighthouse at 938 Whitehead Street across from Ernest Hemingway’s House. Entrance fee per person $10, children 6 and under $5. That’s as hard as it gets!                           Shoestring Weekend

K-Mart’s Oceanic Mural

Wow, how beautiful is this! Probably the WIDEST oceanic mural in the Florida Keys! I’d venture to say that it’s one of the most ornately painted K-Mart stores in the entire country! Believe it or not, it’s in our own backyard at Mile Marker 50.1 oceanside on US-1. YOU CAN’T MISS this oceanic wonder on the left hand side of the road as you drive thru the beautiful city of Marathon heading south. Stop and enjoy this painted splendor, it’s a good stopping point almost half way down the Keys for a photo and stretching your legs. This is...

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have A Dream!” Speech

Look what I’ve found in Key West! Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famous “I Have A Dream!” speech. King lived from Jan. 15th, 1929 to April 4th, 1968 when he was assassinated by James Earl Ray in Memphis, Tennessee as he stood on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel. He gave his famous speech on August 28, 1963, in which he called for an end to racism in the United States. Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, the speech was a defining moment of the American Civil...

Riding a bike in Key West is extremely popular and one of the most relaxing past times. As avid bike riders, we couldn’t think of a better way to spend 35 hours of our lives enjoying ALL of the scenic beauty, historical sites & oddities this vacation wonderland has to offer. YES it’s true, we biked the ENTIRE island of Key West! Got Fish?

Got Fish? This subdivision does! Here’s one for all you fishermen, fisherwomen, & fisherkids. (I hate having to be so politically correct these days) No matter where I drive I’m constantly looking for new attractions while subconsciously aware of street names as I pass. Here’s five consecutive ones you can’t miss: Bonito Lane, Sailfish Lane, Tarpon Lane, Snapper Lane, Wahoo Lane, & Lois Lane… hmmm, that’s six… Oh sorry, Lois Lane is Superman’s reporter girlfriend from the Metropolis Daily Planet not a fish…...

Mr. Bean Is Plastered!

Pedro “Mr. Bean” is indeed plastered! (keep reading to find out where he get his name) You did notice that he chose the seat by the liquor cabinet right! This life-sized plaster cast statue has been adorned with what some call a ‘cobija’ or Mexican blanket. I found this hilarious happy-faced statue as I find nearly all of my topics… by walking in and around buildings and businesses expecting to find absolutely nothing. Every once in a while I stumble across something that makes me smile or laugh being worth photographing as in Pedro here. You can count on finding...

Patterson Avenue Pocket Park

Welcome to the third in a series of Key West Pocket Parks. These are the size of small empty home lots that have been fenced-in and converted into FREE public parks for all to use. This is the smallest so far, approximately 25′ wide x 70′ deep. As you can see in the photos, it has several shade trees, a bench to sit on, patio brick type path way, & some so-called artwork. The artwork can be seen beside our bikes that looks more like a coat rack in which I hung my hat on! You can find the Patterson Avenue Pocket Park on… hmm, let me see, oh yeah I remember...
