Nelson Government Park
Each trip to Key West I choose 4 or 5 new side roads to take expecting nothing much to pop up on the tourist radar. Every once in a while you’ll round a corner finding a gem. As in the post a few days ago, ‘Secret Sunbathing Spot’ I ran across this the exact same way.
Here at the Nelson Government Park you’ll find not a scrap piece of paper nor hedge untrimmed, this place is nothing short of immaculate! As you can see, the view from the park benches (below) or picnic tables (above) both include a view of the Gulf Of Mexico to die for. The uniquely shaded picnic area was worth a photograph in and of itself and yet nature throws in a view to boot!
Why is this park so picture perfect? Here’s why, connected to the park is the Nelson Government Center where all the important city managers dwell and hang their hats during a days work and demand nothing less for visitors & guests alike to see upon their arrival. Let me tell you, it works and this place is worth a stop if a picnic or bag lunch is on your list for the Keys.
You can find this hidden gem behind the Nelson Government Center on US-1 bayside at Mile Marker 102.0 in Key Largo.
