Historic Key West’s Old City Hall

This historic landmark was dedicated EXACTLY 100 years to the day of our nations centennial celebration on July 4th, 1876. How’s that for a trivia tidbit!

The first city hall was built of wood and stood only 10 years before being burnt to the ground in 1886. The current brick building was built in its place after the terrible fire and has seen many interior & exterior modifications. The first floor has big arches that first housed market stalls and then fire engines. The buildings focal point is its bell tower that was erected in 1976 during our nations bicentennial, coincidence… I don’t think so! The eye-catching granite marble stairs and wrought iron gates that adorn its entrance were the last major additions that can’t be missed upon walking up to one of Key West’s most iconic buildings.

Easy to find is an understatement, there’s not one person in town that doesn’t know where to find the World Famous Sloppy Joe’s Bar… Old City Hall sits right behind it!
