“Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?”

“Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?” No I’m not talking about Sidney Poitier’s 1967 classic Hollywood movie! ? OK, it should really say, “Guess Who’s Coming Home To Dinner?”. The answer would be Ernest Hemingway every night he lived here!

Ernest Hemingway is one of America’s most beloved writers and became Key West’s most famous resident. This home believe it or not is one of Key West’s best kept secrets! Most assume his only home is the more famous paid tourist attraction on Whitehead Street. Even though it’s posted on the outside alleyway wall who lived here,  it’s not facing the road and is missed by nearly every person that passes. (shown below)

Seen here is Hemingway’s first Key West residence now called Casa Antigua a private residence, he lived on the second floor corner directly above the arched-top door. Hemingway’s first Key West home can be found at 314 Simonton Street on the right hand side of the former Pelican Poop Shoppe. (trust me, just ask for the Poop Shoppe) ?
