Monroe County is the southernmost county in Florida. It stretches more than 100 miles from Key Largo to Key West and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. Its key population centers include Key Largo, Islamorada, Tavernier, Marathon, Big Pine Key and Key West.

The Florida Keys are renowned for being among the most pre-eminent fishing and diving destinations in the world. Recreation options include fishing, diving, kayaking, camping, bicycling and assorted other water and outdoor sports.

Southernmost Hospitality, FREE Ice-Cold Water!

I found this to be most original and unique to say the least! A 24-7 FREE ice-cold water by the cup or bowl. Southernmost hospitality is still alive in the Florida Keys. At anytime during the day or night you can stop by and get your FREE cup of ice-cold drinking water while passing by walking your dog,  your daily jog, running errands, or simply driving past as a tourist heading further down the Keys. If you look closely you can see the little cone-shaped paper cups middle ways up on the featured photo just beside the yellow Igloo cooler that holds the water. As an...

That’s No BULL!

Where can you find the United States southernmost bull riding machine? Key West of course! It’s truly one of the last things I’d ever think of finding way down here! I’ve seen many cowboys, cowgirls and city slickers alike try their hand at taming this headless mount. In all honesty, the operators seem to like having the female persuasion upon the rawhide teasing the crowd as he slowly turns the cowgirl doing her best Debra Winger ‘Urban Cowboy’ impression as the frenzy of males patrons cheer louder and louder. The bull...

It’s How Many Miles Away?

Normally these distance mile marker posts are reserved for the center of town or at least a high traffic tourist area like Duval Street here in Key West. This is the exception to the rule, in fact, I’ve NEVER seen one of these on a beach before… have you? There are at least two more of these in town, both of which are in the Harbor Walk area of town… unlike this one stuck on a beach. Let’s see, it shows: Honolulu 4,788 miles, Miami 132 miles, Dry Tortugas 70 miles, London 4,565 miles, Nassau 281 miles, New Orleans 630 miles, San Francisco 2,550 miles… and the...

London Phone Booth In Key West

Welcome to the ONLY Key West London phone booth! (that I know of) Not exactly what you’d call a tourist attraction since it sits in someones front yard. This is the way I look at it, they wouldn’t have put in their front yard and removed the fence in front of it if they didn’t want anyone to know about it! I will on the other hand not give you their exact address but will lead you right there with no problems. Come to think about it, the children growing up today don’t even know what a house phone is much less a phone booth! Amazing isn’t it, anyways… You...
